3 Types of Solid Floor & How To Maintain Them

Hardwood

Although This type is luxurious and durable, it is also sensitive to scratching or damaging. If you want to avoid the appearance of damaged hardwood, be sure to vacuum.

Be sure to vacuum with a smooth attachment regularly to avoid the accumulation of particles such as tiny rocks that can scratch the wood surface.

It’s highly recommended to avoid using vacuums with rotary brush heads.

Make sure to mop after vacuuming or you’ll end up scrubbing those scratchy particles all over your floor.

Any spillages should be wiped up right away, so they can’t be absorbed into the wood.

Vinyl

In terms of maintenance, vinyl is not that different from hardwood.

A similar vacuum-and-mop approach can be used here, however, with vinyl, you don’t have to worry as much about scratches from small particles.

Although vinyl is built to resist scratches, it’s still a good idea to vacuum regularly just to be safe.

One main difference between vinyl and hardwood is that vinyl should never be waxed, as this can leave a white sticky layer on your floor

Stone

Stone is the weirdest item on this list because despite its famous toughness it’s quite sensitive to certain cleaning products.

Whatever acidic you use on your stone floor, whether it’s marble, granite, slate, or any of the other common stone floor materials, will leave a permanent stain.

Because stone is porous, it requires a protective coating to prevent stains from being absorbed easily.

Otherwise, stone floors should be vacuumed with non-rotating brush heads and mopped with soap and water to keep them spotless
